Way Jepara, Lampung Timur https://ejournal.panduinstitute.com/index.php/JNPKM/article/view/224
The agricultural sector is the backbone of the economy and food security of rural communities, including in Labuhan Ratu II Village, Way Jepara District, East Lampung, which relies on commodities such as rice, corn, and horticulture. However, agricultural activities are faced with various risks, such as climate change, pest attacks, price fluctuations, and limited market access, which threaten farmers' productivity and income. This study aims to improve farmers' capacity in risk management through a participatory extension program based on Participatory Action Research (PAR). The implementation method includes three stages: preparation (survey and interview), implementation (interactive training with lecturers and practitioners), and evaluation (intensive monitoring). Extension materials include risk identification, mitigation strategies (crop diversification, agricultural insurance, and weather prediction technology), and strengthening farmer group institutions. The results showed a significant increase in farmer understanding, with 80% of participants being able to apply risk management concepts, including modifying cropping patterns and utilizing technology. Obstacles such as low digital literacy and limited capital were overcome through special assistance and collaboration with BUMDes. This program succeeded in forming a regular discussion forum and strengthening farmer institutions, which supports the sustainability of the intervention. Recommendations include replication of the program in other areas with adjustments to local contexts and integration with government policies. The expected long-term impacts are increased resilience of farming businesses, income stability, and contribution to sustainable agricultural development

Edi Jatmiko Copyright (c) 2025 https://ejournal.panduinstitute.com/index.php/JNPKM/article/view/224 Wed, 26 Mar 2025 00:00:00 +0700
